This position is part of a small team responsible for delivering high-quality, modern applications in a timely way, by performing software development activities throughout the software product lifecycle.

• Performs requirements definition, application design, coding, testing, integration, documentation, and implementation activities for new projects
• Supports and extends existing in-house business applications as required
• Implements and extends purchased applications packages when appropriate
• Providing support for existing applications will require limited after-hours/weekend work

• EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field from a four-year college or university.
• EXPERIENCE: At least eight years of employment designing and implementing Object-Oriented software in a business setting. At least five years of Java experience, emphasizing client-server development in a non-J2EE environment.
• LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to employees and third parties. Ability to read and interpret technical programming instructions and documentation.
• MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to construct appropriate algorithms to solve business applications design problems.
• REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense and logic to understand and develop and/or implement computer programs responsive to specific needs and requirements. Ability to consider technical and business trade-offs and to participate in discussion regarding their conflicting needs.
• OTHER SKILLS: Working knowledge of client/server and web technology, gained through experience in UNIX or Windows environments. Ability to work collaboratively with other programmers, data base administrators, systems administrators, and a variety of people within the Firm’s business units.
• Non-essential, but desirable skills: GUI design; J2EE EJB development; relational database design and performance tuning; knowledge of other development tools that have been used by firm (such as Perl, Crystal Reports and Visual Basic)
